2RuleSynth 3.3: Free Patchable Synth Adds Linux Support, Patchable FX

2RuleSynth 3.3 is a major update to the free patchable virtual-analog synthesizer from independent developer tugrulakyuz. The plugin remains completely free with no sign-up required and runs on Windows, macOS, and now Linux in VST3 and CLAP formats.

What's new in version 3.3

The update focuses on workflow and platform reach:

  • Native Linux support (VST3/CLAP)
  • Redesigned UI with five oscillator colour schemes, spectrum bars, and master volume in the header
  • Patchable multi-FX engine — route cables from any modulation source to effect parameters
  • 16-voice polyphony (up from 6) with unison detune and stereo spread per voice
  • Sample & hold (random) LFO waveform added
  • Four macro controls with MAP mode: draw a cable from a macro to any knob, then set depth by dragging the connection
  • Sync waveform option for both oscillators

Modular workflow in a plugin

2RuleSynth distinguishes itself by letting you patch modulation cables directly on the panel, much like a hardware modular. The new macro MAP mode extends this to the effects section, so you can assign a single macro to control filter cutoff, delay time, and reverb mix simultaneously. The developer has released several experimental free plugins over the past few years, including the Phonogène-inspired TugPhonon tape delay.

Quick facts

2RuleSynth 3.3 is free, open-license, and royalty-free for commercial use. Download the installer from the developer's website; no account or registration is needed. The plugin supports VST3 and CLAP on all three major desktop platforms.
