Welcome to your tutorial on pop singing! When it comes to pop music, style and technique are much more variable than other genres, because individual singers and their unique style impact pop music as a whole. Michael Jackson changed pop music. Mariah Carey changed pop music. It's always evolving as new artists come along and gain popularity. Our goal for this tutorial is to learn some techniques commonly found in pop singing today. Our first lesson is on tone: specifically, how to start with your speaking voice when finding your pop tone. Next, we'll look at different ways to play with the melody, including runs, falls, and intentional vibrato. And last, we'll practice singing with distinct registration: full chest voice, lighter head voice, and intentional breaks between registers.
