CARP Audio is giving away Octapus, its octave effect plugin, for free — but only for a limited time (48 hours from Feb 27, 2026). Normally priced at €29.95, this is worth grabbing immediately.
What is Octapus?
Octapus goes well beyond a simple pitch-shift-up/down. It has two parallel time-stretching channels — one pitched an octave down, one an octave up — each with its own volume slider for fine-tuned blending with the dry signal.
Key features
- Two independent octave channels (up & down), each with volume fader
- Per-channel filter knob — sweeps between low-pass and high-pass to keep octave layers from cluttering the mix
- Detune — spreads the left and right voices of each pitched channel for a wide, synth-like chorusing effect
- Spread (Haas Effect) — pushes pitched channels across the stereo field without affecting the dry signal; mono-compatible
- Audition Mode — instantly previews the 100% wet signal so you can dial in the effect before blending it
Works especially well on guitars, vocals, and synth leads. The detuning + spread combination can add serious width and character to otherwise thin sources.
Compatibility
- Format: VST3, AU
- macOS: 10.15+ (Intel + Apple Silicon)
- Windows: VST3
- Note: Without a license key the plugin runs in Demo Mode (fully functional, but occasional noise bursts)
