Quick Answer

Ableton Move 2.1 bounce clips workflow: in Session Mode, copy a MIDI clip and paste it into an audio clip slot or a drum pad. For an audio clip, copy it, paste into a drum pad, or hold Shift and paste into an audio clip slot. One bounce at a time; cancel with the wheel; the destination flashes red. Move 2.1.0 shipped 25 August 2026 after public beta 2.1.0b1 (7 Jul), 2.1.0b2 (20 Jul), and 2.1.0b3 (12 Aug).[1][2] Note 2.1 bounces MIDI by pasting a MIDI clip onto an audio track. Cloud the Set (eight max) into Live 12.4 (shipping 5 May 2026).[3][5][9] Serum and other third-party VSTs do not run on Move; bounce to WAV or keep MIDI, then finish in Live.

Hardware Sketch Path: Move and Note 2.1, Not Push 3 Standalone

This is the compact sketch path: Ableton Move and Note for ideas, bounce clips to audio, then Ableton Cloud into Live 12.4 for mix and third-party plugins. It is not the Push 3 standalone production workflow. Move is a four-track standalone instrument. Note is the iOS sketch app. Both hand off one way into Live.

Ableton published Move 2.1.0 on 25 August 2026 as a free device update.[1][12] Bounce, time signatures, and mono record first appeared as public beta 2.1.0b1 (7 July 2026), 2.1.0b2 (20 July, Bounces folder and BADSISTA kits), and 2.1.0b3 (12 August).[2] A 2.1.0b version string is still beta firmware. Note 2.1.0 is the shipping Note line (MIDI bounce, warp markers, time signatures); CDM reported App Store availability on 25 August 2026.[3][14] Live 12.4 shipped 5 May 2026. Live 13 is not a shipping DAW here.[9]

How to Bounce Clips on Ableton Move 2.1

Move 2.1 renders any single clip as audio into an audio clip slot or a drum pad, locking in the instrument plus effects as a sample. Bounces run in the background. Only one bounce can run at a time.[1]

  1. Copy the clip in Session Mode
Select the MIDI or audio clip and copy it in Session Mode. Bounce is copy-then-paste, not a separate menu command.[1]
  2. Bounce MIDI: paste into an audio slot or drum pad
Paste the MIDI clip into an empty audio clip slot or onto a drum pad. Move renders the clip through its instrument and effects.[1]
  3. Bounce audio: pad paste, or Shift-paste into an audio slot
Copy the audio clip in Session Mode, then paste into a drum pad. To bounce into another audio clip slot, hold Shift and paste.[1]
  4. Watch the red flash; cancel with the wheel
The destination slot or pad flashes red. Press the wheel to cancel. Do not start a second bounce until the first finishes.[1]
  5. Find the file in the Bounces folder
Beta 2.1.0b2 (20 July 2026) placed bounce audio in a Bounces folder in Move’s browser. Pressing a pad that is still bouncing reopens the dialog and does not play MIDI.[2]

Bounce on Move before Cloud

Print Drift, Drum Sampler, and stock FX to WAV on the device. Keep the MIDI clip if notes still need to change. Cloud then carries both into Live 12.4.

Note 2.1: Bounce MIDI onto Audio Tracks

Note 2.1 copies MIDI clips onto audio tracks to render them as audio. Warp markers sit in the audio clip editor above the waveform. Recordings can be saved to the User Library. Time signatures are no longer limited to 4/4. Session View and Audio Track View work in landscape on iPhone.[3]

  1. Copy the MIDI clip
In Session View, copy the MIDI clip. Note 2.1 has no separate Bounce button; the render is copy from MIDI, paste onto an audio track.[3]
  2. Paste onto an audio track
Paste into an audio-track clip slot. Note renders the MIDI through that track’s instrument and effects as an audio clip.[3]
  3. Set warp markers before you leave Note
Place warp markers on the strip above the waveform. They travel with the Set into Live, so you do not re-warp the same take on the desktop.[3][14]

Note 2.1 records single-channel captures as mono files, matching Move 2.1 mic recordings. Move only plays and edits Note tracks 1 through 4. Reorder tracks 5-8 into those slots in Note before you expect to hear them on Move.[3][4]

What Runs on Move and Note vs What Stays in Live

Move and Note run Ableton stock instruments, samplers, and a subset of Live audio effects. They load WAV and MIDI. They do not host Serum, third-party VST/AU plugins, or Max for Live. Bounce what the hardware can play, then open the Set where those plugins actually load.

Time signaturesYes in 2.1. Existing clip lengths stay the same.Yes[1][3]
  • Load WAV and MIDI on Move Use Move Manager or the on-device browser. Keep BPM in the filename when you can; Move 2.1 rounds those files to full bars at the current signature.[1][10]

Time Signatures, Mono Line-In, and Live 12.4

Move 2.1 time signatures apply to the selected Set. Open Workflow Settings with Shift + Step 3. New clips follow the current signature; existing clips keep their length in beats (a 5/4 one-bar clip stays five beats after you switch to 3/4). Bars longer than sixteen 16th notes span sequencer pages (11/8 is sixteen steps, then six). Files with no BPM in the name are treated as 4/4 when Move estimates tempo.[1]

  1. Set the signature before new clips
Hold Shift and press Step 3, set the signature, then record. Changing it later does not rewrite clips you already made.[1]
  2. Record line-in in mono from the left channel
Enter Sampling Mode on a drum pad or audio clip. Cycle the input source with the wheel to Line in - Mono (left channel).[1]
  3. Treat 2.1 mic recordings as mono
Move 2.1 writes mic recordings as mono. Note 2.1 does the same for single-channel captures. Add stereo width in Live after Cloud.[1][3]

Audio tracks arrived in Move 2.0

Audio tracks shipped in Move 2.0.0 on 5 May 2026 with Live 12.4. Version 2.1 adds bounce, time signatures, and mono line-in on top. Live 12.4 is required to open Move 2.0 Sets correctly. Update Live before you Cloud a 2.0 or 2.1 Set.[1][9]

Ableton Cloud Handoff into Live 12.4

Ableton Cloud moves Note and Move Sets into Live’s browser on the same account. It is not Link Audio. Cloud works from Live 11.2.5 in every edition. Sync eight Sets. Sets over about 50 MB may fail. Do not edit the same Cloud Set on two devices at once.[4][5][6][10]

  1. Turn on Cloud in Live 12.4
Settings (Ctrl+, / Cmd+,) → Library → Show Cloud On, then sign in. Cloud appears under Places.[5]
  2. Activate Cloud on Move or Note
Note: Settings → Ableton Cloud → On. Move: Move Manager → Settings → Activate Cloud (Wi-Fi required).[4][5]
  3. Bounce clips you want locked as audio
Print MIDI and effected audio on the device before upload if you need those sounds as WAV. Cloud transfers the Set; it does not bounce for you.
  4. Upload the Set
Note: Set Options → Upload to Ableton Cloud. Move: Shift + Step 1 for Set Overview, then shift-press the Set’s pad and upload.[4][5]
  5. Open Cloud in Live, then Collect All and Save
Places → Cloud, open the project, then Collect All and Save as .als. Live edits do not write back to the .abl Set. That Live Set cannot be sent back to Move or Note.[5][7][11]

Move Manager when Cloud is the wrong tool

Move Manager over Wi-Fi or USB-C downloads a .ablbundle without using a Cloud slot. Maximum Move Set size there is 800 MB. Supported: Move to Note, Move to Live, Note to Move (tracks 1-4). Not supported: Live to Move and Live to Note.[7][10][13]

After Collect All and Save, the file is a normal Live 12.4 Set. Load Serum or other VSTs on new MIDI tracks, process the bounced WAV, and arrange. The hardware sketch is the starting clip grid, not the mix.

  • Replace or layer the bounce Keep bounced WAV as a reference while you rebuild a part in Serum. Do not delete it until the VST version is committed.
  • Link Audio is a jam path, not the file handoff Move 2.0+ and Note 2.0+ can send Link Audio into Live 12.4 or Push 3 Standalone. They cannot receive it. Use bounce plus Cloud when you need a file after Move powers down.[8]

Pack WAV one-shots and MIDI clips for Move in the format the device already plays. Third-party synths stay in Live.

Load WAV one-shots and MIDI clips on Move, bounce the sketch, then finish the Set in Live.
