Bandcamp Is the Direct-to-Fan Wall for Substantial AI
Bandcamp stated the rule in a 13–14 January 2026 support post, covered the same week by Pitchfork, The Verge, and Ars Technica: “Music and audio that is generated wholly or in substantial part by AI is not permitted on Bandcamp.” Impersonation — “any use of AI tools to impersonate other artists or styles” — is strictly prohibited.[1][2][3] Bandcamp asked users to report music that appears made entirely or with heavy reliance on generative AI, and reserved the right to remove any music on suspicion of being AI generated.[1] That is a storefront wall: if the page comes down, there is no merch bundle and no fan payment.
Pitchfork’s read of the same statement is the working producer distinction: small AI assist — inspiration for a melody, cleaning up audio — is left as human-led. Prompt-to-master uploads with little human altering are the target.[1] The Verge also pointed at Bandcamp’s Acceptable Use policy: users agree not to train any machine learning or AI model on Bandcamp content, or otherwise ingest platform data into an ML/AI model.[2][18] That clause does not make a generated beat allowed.

Deezer Hosts Fully AI, Then Cuts Discovery, Fraud Streams, and Dead Files
Deezer does not ban fully AI tracks. It spent 2025–2026 building the opposite stack: detect, tag, keep the file findable, and take it out of the surfaces that mint most streams. On 21 July 2026 Billboard reported Deezer’s figure: fully AI recordings reached more than 50 percent of new music uploads “at peak level in June 2026,” about 90,000 AI tracks in that peak. Deezer’s newsroom posted the same numbers the same day, and said it detected and tagged more than 13.4 million fully AI-generated tracks in 2025.[4][5] Those are upload counts, not listen counts.

The 21 July 2026 add-on is catalog hygiene, not a Tidal-style royalty kill. A wholly AI master can remain streamable, gets an “AI” label, and is not eligible for royalty attribution. Tidal’s line: it will not knowingly attribute royalties to music it identifies as wholly AI-generated.[8][17] Upload recordings determined to be wholly AI-generated may be labeled and are not eligible for direct-to-fan monetization.[9] Fraud, impersonation, and deceptive AI can be blocked or removed. Spotify still says the royalty formula does not care which tools made the record. In its September 2025 AI-protections material it describes itself as a platform for licensed music where royalties are paid based on listener engagement, and all music is treated equally, regardless of the tools used to make it.[11] Variety quoted that sentence against Tidal’s royalty ban.[7] Spotify accepts AI-assisted and AI-generated recordings that are licensed, not voice-clone impersonation, and not spam. Role-level AI Credits — vocals, lyrics, instruments, production — travel through supporting distributors on DDEX-style fields.[12] Honest credits are transparency. They are not described as a recs kill switch and they are not a royalty cut.
