How to Make a Producer Tag Safely

A tag is a sound recording and often a performance. If someone else speaks or you lift audio from a film/stream, you need permission appropriate to commercial releases. “Everyone uses it” is not a license.

Safest path: record yourself, hire a voice actor with a written work-for-hire/license, or use sounds you created. This is not legal advice — complex clears need a professional.

Design and Capture

1. Write 2–5 short phrases
   Name variants; avoid long sentences.
2. Record clean dry takes
   Quiet room, gentle compression while tracking optional.
3. Edit breaths/clicks
   Keep personality, remove trash.
4. Create dry + branded FX versions
   Delay/reverb throws as separate files.
5. Export WAV 24-bit
   Plus a lower preview if needed.
6. Normalize conservatively
   Leave headroom for the beat.

Placement in the Beat

• Intro signature First 1–4 bars branding.
• Pre-hook lift Energy cue without eating the downbeat.
• Drop mute games Tag in the gap before drums return.
• Avoid Sitting on the singer’s first line every time.

Mix-wise, high-pass mud, de-ess if needed, and mono-check wide FX — mono compatibility.
