Liquid Sky XEN FX LAB Delay Plugin Succeeds Zen Delay

Liquid Sky XEN FX LAB Delay Plugin Succeeds Zen Delay

Liquid Sky D-vices has officially launched Liquid Sky XEN FX LAB, the feature-expanded successor to the acclaimed Zen Delay Virtual multi-effects processor. Developed alongside Matt Black of Coldcut and instrument designer Benjamin Weiss, the updated software drops iLok licensing in favor of a streamlined activation system while introducing core DSP enhancements. Existing Zen Delay Virtual owners can claim the upgrade completely free of charge through Liquid Sky D-vices.

A Fresh Foundation for Zen Delay

Liquid Sky D-vices and Ninja Tune originally joined forces with Erica Synths to translate the boutique Zen Delay hardware pedal into software. With Liquid Sky XEN FX LAB, the project transitions to a dedicated development unit including Dr Walk, Matt Black, and Berlin-based instrument designer Benjamin Weiss, known for his work on Ableton Move and Native Instruments Maschine+.

The most prominent systemic change is the removal of Pace iLok copy protection. Licensing is now handled through an inlay.cloud system, reducing background system overhead. The internal audio engine has also been refactored for smoother performance, resulting in lower CPU draw during heavy multi-instance sessions.

Creative Sound Shaping and Performance Controls

Liquid Sky XEN FX LAB maintains the dub-focused architecture of its predecessor while introducing a refreshed user interface tailored for live improvisation, DJing, and experimental sound design.

Key features include:

  • Multimode digital and vintage tape delay algorithms
  • Multi-mode resonant analog-style filter offering low-pass, band-pass, and high-pass slopes
  • Overdrive stage capable of gentle saturation up to abrasive distortion
  • Deep LFO modulation routing for pitch drift, rhythmic flutter, and dynamic filtering
  • Overhauled graphic interface with enhanced parameter visibility and tactile response
  • Low-latency performance profile with optimized CPU efficiency

Formats and Compatibility

The plugin operates on macOS and Windows in 64-bit VST3, AU, and AAX formats, with an iPadOS AUv3 edition scheduled for release shortly. It provides a tactile playground for electronic producers needing wild feedback loops, textured dub echoes, and analog grit.

Quick Facts: Liquid Sky XEN FX LAB is available now as a free upgrade for registered Zen Delay Virtual owners, with new standalone licenses available on desktop and an iPadOS release arriving soon.
