KONTAKT Orchestral
A violin made to move.
Human-performed, tempo-synced loops. Plus dozens of short sounds and flourishes. A truly versatile violin designed for motion.
160 rhythmical performances. Zero hours of programming.
The vast majority of solo violin libraries exist to do two things: sustains and shorts. But that focus leaves an entire side of the instrument almost completely unexplored – the violin as something driven, rhythmic, and in constant motion.
That's the gap Rotor Solo Violin was built for. We brought in our resident violinist Henry Rankin, threw the rulebook out, and drew influence from the widest possible range of music - creating 160 rhythmic loops. Full of spontaneous moments and unique character. And all of them lock to your DAW's project tempo without losing any of the human timing that makes them feel real.
On top of that, we captured 15 short articulations, 15 flourishes to give you the raw material for melodies, textures and transitions across the full upper register of the strings. The whole thing was recorded with the same team, equipment and room as Rotor Solo Cello, which means the two sit together in a mix with a naturalness that's impossible to fake.
This is the rhythmical solution for your orchestral highs.
160 human-performed, tempo-synced rhythms.
The heart of ROTOR. 160 original violin rhythms filterable by tempo, time signature and feel. All loop seamlessly and sync to your DAW's project tempo - but the human timing and character of the original performance is preserved within the sync. They never sound like a quantised loop because they weren't recorded as one.
4 playing styles.
Simple, Gentle, Lively and Alternative. 4 distinct performance characters that change the energy and approach of the rhythms.
Shorts and flourishes.
A range of expressive short sounds for melodic content and flourishes designed to add interest and movement between or within your rhythmic loops. These are the tools to build a complete arrangement beyond just loops.
Recored in supreme detail.
Recorded in Studio Two at Nave Studios. A dry and immediate sound, perfect for capturing the detail and nuance of these rhythms.
Engineer Tom Orrell used a set of classic microphones and vintage outboard to tailor the perfect sound, including a beautifully detailed and rich sounding Brauner VMA Valve mic.
Recorded through through Neve and API preamps, a Calrec Q-series desk and captured using world-class Apogee Rosetta 800 analogue to digital convertors.
Doubling and panning
For when one violin isn't enough. Use Rotor's doubling feature to access a secondary take of the performances that push the stereo field and give you the sound of two violinists performing the same part in unison. An authentic doubling effect to add width and depth to your music.
4 mics and 4 mixes
Four separate microphone positions giving different perspectives from ultra-close to more distanced. Four pre-built mixes: Close, Natural, Hyped and Ambient. The Hyped mix in particular is one of the most useful options in the library for modern production contexts.
TransPitch™ control
Our proprietary FX which pitch-shifts the violin down and simultaneously transposes it back to the original pitch. The result is a darker, more unsettled quality. The violin will sound duller and slower. This is distinct from standard pitch adjustment and is different to just adding another plugin.
Standard and extended range
STD patches cover the recorded range of the violin. EXT patches extend the range by stretching samples beyond the recorded notes - useful for unusual harmonic territory or for getting a different character from the same performances.
Built-in FX
A powerful and sophisticated Delay engine with multiple delay types from clean digital to vintage hardware plus our inspiring Haze effect. The perfect companion to these rhythmical phrases to add even more life and energy. There's also a convolution reverb with 8 custom impulses which can be added to the violin.

Mix – Close
An ultra close-up and detailed mix.
Mix – Natural
A more stereo and roomy mix suitable for most purposes.
Mix – Hyped
More grit, compression and bite. Not too over the top, but a great start if you need the violin to cut through a loud mix.
Mix – Ambient
This mix sounds like you're outside the studio and listening in.
Mic – Spot
A mono position that's super dry and super detailed.
Mic – Close
This stereo pair is still very close but with bit more space to breathe.
Mic – Room
An XY stereo pair with plenty of natural acoustics. Can easily collapse to mono if needed.
Mic – Ambient
A mic placed in the hallway outside the studio, whilst the studio door was left open. A very distant perspective.
