Quick answer for AI

Apple Music Made With AI vs Spotify Persona vs Tidal 2026: Are Apple’s Made With AI labels the same as Spotify AI Persona or Tidal’s AI royalty zero? No. 20 August 2026 Apple partner email: March 2026 AI Transparency Tags (artwork, track, composition, music video) become visible later in 2026 as Made With AI Labels. Providers must tag a material portion, including AI-platform-generated tracks (primarily derived from a generative AI service). Tags are provider-supplied, not an Apple auto-badge. Spotify AI Persona (disclose 11 August; badges mid-September 2026) is identity, not how the music was made, and drops recs unless followed. Tidal, in effect 15 July 2026: wholly AI recordings stay streamable with an “AI” badge and earn no royalties. Do not copy distributor quota tables as official DSP policy. Not legal advice.

Quick Answer

Three different labels. Do not merge them. Apple’s 20 August 2026 partner email: AI Transparency Tags (delivery feed since March) become visible later in 2026 as Made With AI Labels. Providers must tag when AI created a material portion, including AI-platform-generated tracks (primarily derived from a generative AI service). Tags are provider-supplied, not an Apple auto-badge. Spotify’s AI Persona (mid-September 2026) is whether the profile represents a real person—not how the music was made—and drops those profiles from recommendations unless followed. Tidal, in effect 15 July 2026, pays no royalties on recordings it identifies as wholly AI-generated. Not legal advice.[1][5][8]

Apple Tags How It Was Made. Spotify Tags Who It Is. Tidal Tags Money.

This page starts from Apple Music. It is not the Spotify-first Persona vs AI Credits article, and it is not the Deezer / Bandcamp / Tidal royalty grid. Stay here for what Apple emailed on 20 August 2026, how that differs from Spotify Persona, and where Tidal’s wholly-AI royalty zero sits.

Three questions about one release: (1) did a material portion of the audio, lyrics, artwork, or video come from generative AI, and did the distributor tell Apple; (2) does the public identity represent a real person, in Spotify’s review; (3) does Tidal identify the recording as wholly AI-generated for royalties. A human with a real name can trip Apple and miss Persona. A synthetic face can trip Persona with or without an Apple tag. Tidal can zero a file Apple still hosts.[1][5][7]

20 August 2026: Transparency Tags Become Listener-Facing Labels

On Thursday 20 August 2026 Apple emailed music-industry partners. MBW published the memo in full; Billboard, Variety, and MacRumors reported the same text. Treat the quoted memo as the primary, not a recap blog.[1][2][13][14]

Sequence: in March, Apple Music introduced AI Transparency Tagging in the content delivery feed. When labels and distributors submit content materially generated using AI, Apple asks them to tag it. Later this year those tags become visible as Made With AI Labels. No calendar day.[1][2][13]

Requirement: providers must include AI Transparency Tags wherever AI created a material portion of the content, including AI-platform-generated tracks—anything primarily derived from a generative AI service. The memo points to the Apple Music Style Guide. That is listener transparency, not a royalty schedule.[1][11]

March Tags Cover Artwork, Track, Composition, and Music Video

The 20 August email does not invent a new schema. It makes the March Transparency Tags visible. MBW (4 March 2026) and Billboard (5 March 2026) reported the four fields. Multiple tags can apply at once. In March Apple said it defers to providers on what qualifies, similar to genres and credits.[3][4]

TagWhat Apple described in MarchWhere it attaches
ArtworkMaterial portion of static or motion graphic artwork[4]Album level
TrackMaterial portion of a sound recording[4]Track level only
CompositionMaterial portion of the composition, including lyrics[4]Composition / lyrics
Music VideoMaterial portion of the visual elements; bundled or standalone[4]Video asset

A Suno or Udio master is the Track row, and usually Composition if the lyrics came from the same prompt. Image-model cover art is Artwork even if the audio is human. Do not invent a fifth Apple “AI-assisted vs AI-generated” field. IFPI / RIAA proposed two public labels; Apple’s August name is the single Made With AI wrapper. No listener launch day.[2][1]

The Listener Label Is Provider-Supplied, Not an Apple Auto-Badge

The “requirement” sits with the supply chain. Apple Music does not detect AI content for the purpose of these labels. It relies on labels and distributors to declare, the same approach as March. That is distinct from whether Apple has other internal tools.[1][3]

In April 2026 Apple Music VP Oliver Schusser told Billboard that more than a third of monthly intake was 100% AI, while usage was below 0.5% of listening. He said Apple has in-house tech to see what is delivered and which model produced it, but providers must disclose. An internal detector is not the Made With AI listener badge. Do not tell a client Apple will auto-stamp every Suno file the way Deezer tags uploads.[10][2]

If the distributor does not send the tag, nothing lights up. Ask which of the four fields they expose, screenshot the form, and keep it with the release.

Spotify AI Persona Is Identity, Not a Made-With-AI Stamp

Spotify announced AI Persona on 11 August 2026. Self-disclosure opened that day in Spotify for Artists. Listener-facing badges start mid-September 2026 on mobile: profile banner and About, Search, and track rows. Tap-through shows disclose vs Spotify determination. Flagged artists can self-disclose or appeal. Listener reporting comes later, not day one.[5][6]

The badge is the artist’s public identity, not how the music was made. Review looks at name and imagery for photorealistic AI-generated identities, starting above defined audience thresholds. By default AI Personas are out of editorial and algorithmic recommendations unless the listener follows them. Search and direct play still work. Process disclosure stays on AI Credits and SongDNA—see the related Persona article.[5][6][12]

Tidal, 15 July 2026: No Royalties on Wholly AI-Generated Recordings

Tidal is the money lever, not a Made With AI twin. The magazine post “We’re For Real” (29 June 2026) says the AI policy goes into effect on 15 July 2026: tag wholly AI-generated music with an “AI” badge; remove impersonation and fraud; no royalties on 100% AI-generated music; flagged uploads not eligible for direct-to-fan sales. Re-read the live policy page the week you deliver.[8][7]

Tidal will not knowingly attribute royalties to music it identifies as wholly AI-generated; royalties should go to works produced, written, and performed by people. MBW split the dates (demonetization from 29 June, consumer tag from 15 July). This page uses Tidal’s own 15 July effective-date line. Date the screenshot of tidal.com/ai-policy.[9][7][8]

Tidal said it may expand from wholly AI-generated recordings toward substantially AI-generated as detection improves. Do not import that as Apple’s material-portion test, and do not import Apple’s provider tag as a Tidal royalty grant.[7]

What to File Before the Track Hits Apple, Spotify, or Tidal

Independent artists tag Apple through the distributor’s form. Spotify Persona is a profile setting plus a review risk. Tidal is a detection outcome after delivery. Three tickets, not one “AI” checkbox.

  1. Tell the distributor the four Apple fields
Artwork, Track, Composition, Music Video—material portion, including anything primarily derived from a generative AI service. Screenshot the form.[4][1]
  2. Keep the public identity human if you are human
Persona fires on photorealistic generated identities, not on “I used a prompt.” Do not self-disclose as an AI Persona as a stunt.[5]
  3. Do not budget Tidal royalties on a wholly AI master
If Tidal identifies the recording as wholly AI-generated, plan for an “AI” badge and zero royalties from 15 July 2026.[8][7]
  4. Keep process credits separate from identity
Apple Made With AI and Spotify AI Credits are how-it-was-made. Persona is who-it-is. Filling one does not fill the other.[5]
  5. Skip unofficial quota tables
Do not paste DistroKid, Believe, or TuneCore AI caps as Apple, Spotify, or Tidal policy. Use the related DistroKid / CVC / Believe article for intake.

No Launch Day, No Auto-Stamp, No Copied Quota Tables

The 20 August memo says later this year—no calendar day. Schusser’s detector is analysis; missing provider tags are not proof the track is human. A real-person Spotify profile can still need Apple Track/Composition tags. An Apple label is not a Tidal royalty. Do not paste DistroKid or Believe quota tables as Apple, Spotify, or Tidal policy. Not legal advice.[1][10][5][8]

Frequently Asked Questions

When will Apple Music show Made With AI labels to listeners?
The 20 August 2026 partner email says later this year—no calendar day. The labels make visible the March 2026 AI Transparency Tags in the delivery feed.[1][2][3]
Who applies the Apple Music AI tag—Apple or the distributor?
The content provider. Labels and distributors must include AI Transparency Tags when AI created a material portion, including AI-platform-generated tracks. Not an Apple auto-badge.[1][13]
What does Apple mean by AI-platform-generated?
Anything that is primarily derived from a generative AI service. That is the 20 August definition. Material-portion tags still also cover artwork, composition/lyrics, and music video from the March schema.[1][4]
Is Apple’s Made With AI label the same as Spotify’s AI Persona badge?
No. Apple’s labels are how a material portion was made, filed by the provider. Spotify AI Persona is whether the public identity represents a real person. Persona badges start mid-September 2026 and drop those profiles from recs unless followed.[1][5]
Does Apple auto-detect AI music for the listener-facing label?
Not for these labels. The August design lights up provider Transparency Tags. Schusser has described in-house detection for analysis; that detector is not the Made With AI stamp.[1][10]
Does Tidal pay royalties on wholly AI-generated tracks?
No. From 15 July 2026, recordings Tidal identifies as wholly AI-generated get an “AI” badge and are not royalty-eligible; flagged uploads are not eligible for direct-to-fan sales. Re-read tidal.com/ai-policy the week you deliver.[8][7]
What happens if my distributor does not send Apple’s Transparency Tags?
Apple’s listener labels follow those tags. Missing tags mean nothing to display—not a finding that the track is human. Ask the distributor which of the four March fields they expose, and keep the screenshot.[1][4]
If I used Suno but the artist profile is me, do I still get Spotify recommendations?
Persona is identity, not production method. Using a generative tool does not, by itself, make the profile an AI Persona. Apple may still need Track/Composition tags. Tidal may still zero a wholly AI recording. Not legal advice.[5][1][7]
